by Nick Moutvic

A part of a culture that is increasingly obsessed with figuring things out, this 20-something is just trying to balance the responsibilities of adulthood, with 2 a.m. taco runs. Nick explores the oddities of life in a series of candid essays about dating failures, moments of harsh self-reflection, and the slew of anxieties that come when mom and dad cut off funding. We keep it simple at CS Books. Just send us the first chapter of your manuscript, along with an attached synopsis of your book, including the ending, to give our editors an idea of the overall storyline. If our acquisition editor likes what they see in the first chapter, they’ll ask for your full manuscript.

WHO OWNS THE RIGHTS TO MY BOOK?

You do! We allow all of our authors to retain copyright of their work, which isn’t always the case in publishing, unfortunately. Once published, we do refrain you from publishing the same work on digital platforms again. However, you are welcome to publish your book in print, of your own accord, or through another publisher.

SO DOES THAT MEAN YOU DON’T PUBLISH PRINT BOOKS?

We have a great relationship with a book printer, and will print several copies of your project for promotional/PR purposes, but at this time we are focused on becoming a premiere digital publisher, though the potential for print is still on our minds. If and when we get there, we will make sure prospective authors are aware.

WHATS THE DEAL WITH COVER RIGHTS?

Unless in the case where the author provides the cover art, Culture Stocked’s design team retains cover rights.

WHAT IF THERE ARE MULTIPLE AUTHORS?

The more, the merrier! Whether your an individual, a co-authorship, or a collective of unique voices, we want to hear about your project. Just make sure to let us know in your submission whats up, so we can best asses the materials.

HOW LONG WILL IT TAKE TO PUBLISH MY BOOK?

We have a fast turn-around; We are restless millennials after all. Between one and three months, is what you can expect. Where you fall on that scale depends largely on length of your work, and how busy we already are. It definitely helps if you follow the instructions for submissions to a T. We always respond to submissions within two weeks.

WHEN WILL I RECEIVE MY ROYALTIES?

Culture Stocked sends out royalty checks 4 times per year. Royalty splits are as liberal as we can make them, the same for all writers, and are non-negotiable.
